MESOTHELIOMA TREATMENT
Encouraging progress has been made in recent years in treating mesothelioma. Various options now exist including conventional cancer treatments, experimental forms of treatment and various clinical trials. Which treatment is right for any individual depends on a number of factors including the stage of the cancer, where the tumor is located exactly, and the patient's age and general health.
We have provided a synopsis of the most common forms of treatment being used today for mesothelioma. We regularly update this treatment section when new treatments are approved, important scholarly articles are published on mesothelioma and other developments occur.
Like other types of cancers, the three traditional types of treatments for people with mesothelioma are surgery, chemotherapy and radiation treatment. Often, two or more of these are combined in the course of treatment.
We outline the basics regarding these types of treatments here, but the most prudent course of action for someone who has recently been diagnosed with mesothelioma is to seek the consultation of a doctor who specializes in treating the disease as soon as possible. Unless mesothelioma is treated in its earlier stages, a patient may not be a candidate for some of these treatment options. Also, generally speaking, the earlier mesothelioma is treated, the greater the chance of the treatment being effective. Click here to see a list of mesothelioma specialists.
